Germany's Bibiana Steinhaus has been appointed referee for the match between Hertha Berlin and Werder Bremen on Sunday 10 September.
Steinhaus will become the first woman in the history of the Bundesliga to serve as the chief referee of a football match. Previously, she has officiated matches in the second Bundesliga and meetings at the international level. She was transferred to work in the German top league only from the 2017/2018 season, which began in August, but still has not been the main referee.
The Bundesliga will be the first major European football league to have a female referee.
