Putin reproached US officials in ignorance of geography, discussing the DPRK

Russian President Vladimir Putin called the ridiculous situation in which the United States, having adopted new sanctions against the DPRK and Russia, then offer Moscow to join new restrictive measures against Pyongyang due to its nuclear program. At the same time, he spoke caustically about American officials.

“This, of course, is ridiculous at least: put us on a par with North Korea, and then ask for help in sanctions against the DPRK,” Interfax quotes Putin’s statements at a press conference in Syamin on September 4 following the Brix summit .

According to the Russian leader, "it is done by people who confuse Austria with Australia, and then go to their president and say - let's now persuade Russia so that they tighten the sanctions with us."

“We are not going to blow his lips, to be offended by someone and giggling on this score,” Putin continued. “Our position on this issue, just like all the rest, is of a fundamental character: it is not that we and the DPRK were put on one list, although it is stupid and ridiculous, but the fact is that the sanctions regime has come to our line, it is ineffective.”

Moscow condemns nuclear tests of the DPRK, considering them provocative, but does not see any other way out of the situation, except for dialogue, the President of the Russian Federation emphasized.

“In North Korea, they will eat grass, but they will not refuse this program if they don’t feel safe,” Putin said. “And what can ensure security? Establishing international law. We need to conduct business to a dialogue between all interested parties.”
