The mayor of Leipzig condemned the reaction of the local police to the rape of a woman running in a city park: law enforcement officers invited representatives of the weaker sex in pairs and look back, Bild reports on September 3.
Earlier, the rape of a 50-year-old woman who committed a morning run on September 1 in the popular Rosental Park was reported. A dark-haired man of southern appearance attacked her, he looked 25-35 years old. He dragged her into the clearing and abused her, while during the struggle the rapist beat her so much in the face that she had to transfer an emergency operation, notes The Local .
After the incident, the Leipzig police stated that it would be better if women ran in pairs - then they will always know that they are not alone and there is another person nearby. Running past another runner, they were noted by the police, you should look back to make sure that he will not attack.
Such a reaction of the police caused indignation of the public. Law enforcement officers were accused of, instead of ensuring security in parks, they are called to limit the personal freedom of people.
The mayor of the Burkhard Jung said that to prevent such cases on the streets and parks should be more than the police, and recalled that he has been seeking this for several years. “We all want to live in a city where a woman’s walk in the park will be normal and everyone will feel safe,” the mayor emphasized.
It is noted that in Leipzig for a long time there were no such brutal rape. The criminal has not yet been found.
