Ex-President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych was charged in absentia in the seizure of state power in 2010. This was reported by the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuri Lutsenko.

The Department of Special Investigations of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine is investigating the case of expanding the powers of the President in an unconstitutional way. "Based on the collected evidence, it was reported on suspicion (corresponds to the charges of Russian law.-Ed.) Under Part 1 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, ex-president Yanukovych and ex-minister of Justice Lavrinovich in the commission of the seizure of state power, including by taking measures to be illegal, without deciding the uniform legislative in Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada, and the change in the current Radia. The Constitution by introducing into a unified state register of regulatory acts of the text of the Constitution of Ukraine as amended in 1996 and its official publication, ”Lutsenko wrote.

On September 30, 2010, the Constitutional Court of Ukraine in a closed mode canceled the political reform of 2004 , returning the effect of the 1996 Constitution. Thus, Yanukovych received wider powers to the detriment of the powers of the Verkhovna Rada and the Government.

On February 21, 2014, immediately after Yanukovych’s flight, the Verkhovna Rada returned changes to 2004 to the Constitution of the Constitution .

Prior to this, Yanukovych in Ukraine has already been charged with part 1 of article 111 (state treason; sanction from 12 to 15 years of colony), part 5 of article 27 - part 3 of article 110 (awarding in an encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine, which entailed the death of people and other grave consequences; from 10 years to a lifelong period) and part 27 - part 27 - part 2 of article 437 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (aiding in the conduct of an aggressive war; from 10 to 15 years). Yanukovych himself, hiding in Russia, ignored the process. He did not participate in meetings even by video communication. Therefore, the judicial board decided to consider the case in a special production regime - without the participation of the defendant.

On July 5, Yanukovych said he was recalling from the process of his lawyers .
