Kyiv warns of "problems" on the border on the day of arrival of Saakashvili

The State Border Service Ukraine warned tourists about possible difficulties during the crossing the border with Poland through the Krakovets checkpoint in the Lviv region due to mass shares in connection with the intention of Mikhail Saakashvili to return to the country.

A few days ago, at the Krakovets checkpoint , a wire fence was installed on the Ukrainian-Polish border and border outfits were strengthened to prevent provocations. Earlier, supporters of Saakashvili announced the holding of a peaceful action on the border, promising to set up a tent camp at the checkpoint.

Mikhail Saakashvili, ex-president of Georgia and the former governor of the Odessa region, declared his intention to return to Ukraine on September 10. Saakashvili called on his supporters to promote his return - to line up in a “living corridor” and help him cross the border. Ukrainian border guards have already stated that they are not going to put politics into the country, since his Ukrainian passport is invalid.

At the end of July, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed a decree on the deprivation of Saakashvili of Ukrainian citizenship. In Kyiv, it is argued that when filling out documents, the politician did not indicate that he was under investigation, although he was arrested in absentia in Georgia. On September 5, Ukraine received a third request from the Georgian prosecutor’s office for arrest and issuing Saakashvili.
