Mahauri may have participated in the murder of Shamil Basayev. Mahauuri-Paskiri is also mentioned with Lordidpanidze in connection with a special operation in the Lopot Gorge in 2013. In August 2012, the Georgian security forces in the Lopot gorge killed a group of armed people (mainly Chechen origin), who, according to the official version, came from the territory of Dagestan and took hostages in Georgia. There is an alternative version of these events, according to which the incident was a provocation of Georgian special services, arranged on the eve of the elections; According to the publication of MK, in which this version was stated, the Pasapaskiri was one of those who "convinced the Chechens to go to Georgia" and said that they would give them "the road to jihad."

Lordidkipanidze, whom Kommersant called the “active participant” of that operation, called Mahauri the “Patriot of Georgia” and claimed that he was unreasonable for murders in Turkey.

Mahauri could come to Ukraine because of the proximity to Lordkipanidze , which Mikhail Saakashvili appointed the head of the Odessa police in 2015.
