Mikheil Saakashvili broke into the territory of Ukraine
Georgian politician Mikheil Saakashvili, surrounded by a large number of supporters, managed to cross the Ukrainian border near the Shegini checkpoint. This is reported by a Meduza correspondent from the scene.
Supporters of Saakashvili encircled the politician and broke through the cordon of border guards. The border guards have not yet taken any retaliatory measures. According to a Meduza correspondent, Saakashvili's supporters are clapping, shouting his name and singing the national anthem of Ukraine.
The State Border Service of Ukraine confirmed the fact of breaking through the cordon and noted that after it a fight broke out with border guards.
Mikheil Saakashvili decided on September 10 to go to Ukraine. The authorities of Ukraine in July deprived him of Ukrainian citizenship on the basis of errors in the application form for obtaining it, he has no other citizenship.
Saakashvili initially planned to travel to Ukraine from Poland by car, but later it became known that cars were no longer allowed to cross the border. He then, along with a group of supporters that included former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, took a train to Kyiv. The train was stopped immediately after departure due to the fact that Saakashvili had no legal grounds for crossing the Ukrainian border.
After the failure with the train, Saakashvili, along with supporters, went to the border by bus. He was easily let through the Polish checkpoint, and was detained at the Ukrainian border.
