In Kaliningrad, the Investigative Committee will check IK-9, where two prisoners sewed their mouths shut in protest against “cruel treatment”

The Investigative Committee for the Kaliningrad Region began a pre-investigation check after publications in the press that prisoner IK-9 Ruslan Fataliev sewed his mouth shut, the press service of the regional Investigative Committee told Takim Dela.

“The investigation is being carried out on the basis of self-harm,” the department’s press service said.

The investigation is also being carried out by the prosecutor's office, which Fataliev's wife contacted.

“New Kaliningrad” reported on September 8 that two prisoners in IK-9 sewed their mouths shut with thread in protest against “cruel treatment.” Fataliev also carved on his hand “In the event of my death, blame everything on (the name of the head of the colony - MZ)” and promised to commit [Roskomnadzor] if he was not allowed a meeting with his wife and son. Both prisoners went on a dry hunger strike.

Fataliev’s lawyer claims that he has been in a punishment cell for the last eight months and says that correctional officers are torturing him. According to Fataliev, the colony administration has not allowed him to see his wife and son for more than two years.

According to information on the website of the Federal Penitentiary Service for the Kaliningrad Region, IK-9 is a maximum security colony, headed by Alexey Varakin.
