The European Union does not recognize the elections in the Crimea and Sevastopol

The European Union does not recognize the elections in Crimea and Sevastopol on September 10. This is stated in a statement by a representative of the European foreign affairs service published on the organization’s website.

"The European Union did not recognize the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol by Russia and therefore does not recognize the elections on the Crimean Peninsula. Anyone who claims to be the" representative "of Crimea or Sevastopol will not be recognized as such, since these territories belong to Ukraine," Brussels noted. The EU "remains unshakable in its support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine," was assured in the service.

On September 10, the first election of the governor in Sevastopol was held - the acting head of the region Dmitry Ovsyannikov won with the result of 71.12% of the vote.

In addition, at 17 of 184, additional elections were held to deputies of the city legislative assembly. Among other things, on a single voting day in the Crimea, deputies of the regional parliament in two districts were chosen: N9 district in the Voikovsky district of Kerch and the N12 district - in the Leninsky district, TASS notes. Representatives of the United Russia party were the winners in both districts.

Even before the vote in Russia, such a position of the European Union in relation to elections in Crimea was announced by the press secretary of the European External Action Service Maya Kochianchich.

Kyiv also expressed his protest of Russia in connection with elections in Crimea. The official representative of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Maryana Bez, called the election processes on the peninsula, called “Russia's gross violation of international law and laws of Ukraine”. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry called on Western countries and international organizations to expand in connection with the elections in Crimea sanctions against Russia.
