The general director of the Bolshoi Theater Vladimir Urin in the near future intends to discuss the fate of the premiere of the Nureyev ballet with his director Kirill Serebrennikov, who is under house arrest on charges of fraud with state funds for a total amount of 68 million rubles.
“In early September, I asked the IC of Russia with a request to allow me to meet with Cyril. I talked on the phone with the investigator, and he said that he was ready to allow, I sent an official request. I hope that in the coming days the meeting will take place and we will determine the fate of the performance,” Urin explained at a meeting with a ballet troupe (quote for RIA Novosti ).
He also emphasized that the performance is already ready along the Serebrennikov line, but he will leave the final decision about the premiere for the director. “Now it depends on one person. Whether Serebrennikov will allow the performance without him or ask to wait,” the Bolshoi Theater CEO explained.
In addition, Urin once again noted that the Bolshoi Theater intends to release Serebrennikov’s ballet before the end of this year, despite the housekeeper’s home arrest and previously identified problems with the readiness of the performance. “We plan, I want to confirm that I really hope that this season we will play the premiere of Nureyev,” he summed up.
The ballet about the brilliant dancer was to be the last premiere of the 241st season of the Bolshoi Theater. However, three days before the first show, the performance was canceled . Urin later said that due to the unpreparedness of the premiere’s corps de ballet, he was transferred to May 2018.
