Ura.ru: three people detained after an attack on people in Surgut were released

Three people detained in Surgut after a knife attack on passers-by have been released, Ura.ru reports , citing “a source in the city’s legal circles.” These data were partially confirmed by lawyer Seymur Khankishiev; he represents the interests of Naimzhon Ikroev, a student at the same college where the attacker Artur Gadzhiev studied.

“According to yet unconfirmed reports, the charges against the defendants in the criminal case are planned to be dropped in the near future,” the agency claims.

The arrest and charges on terrorism-related charges were not officially announced. The criminal case is being investigated under the article of attempted murder of two or more people (part 3 of article 30, paragraph “a” of part 2 of article 105 of the Criminal Code). According to a VTsIOM poll, the majority of Russians consider the incident to be “the sudden actions of a madman.”

On August 19, Surgut resident Arthur Gadzhikv attacked passers-by with a knife, eight people were injured, and he himself was killed by a policeman during a chase. The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack and published a video message allegedly from Hajiyev, but it does not show the face of the man who swears allegiance to the terrorists.
