High positions in Russian law enforcement agencies can convert to money or profitable business in exchange for support and cover. We always suspected that a bunch of power and capital was arranged in this way, but there are not many documentary evidence of this practice. The story, which is very similar to such a scheme, was found in connection with the investigation of the case of an influential St. Petersburg businessman Dmitry Mikhalchenko.
Since March 2016, Mikhalchenko has been contained in the isolator on charges of contrabanda of elite alcohol, the court in his case is about to begin. As it became known to Republic, shortly before the start of the process, he transferred part of his share in a business related to the St. Petersburg port, the family of Yevgeny Murov, the former director of the Federal Security Service - special services engaged in ensuring the security of the President and other “state protection facilities”.
