The conflict between US President Donald Trump and the head of the Ministry of Justice Jeff Sehns, who arose in May, almost led to the resignation of the latter. It is reported by The New York Times with reference to unnamed sources.
According to the publication, on May 17, Trump during a meeting in the White House attended by Seshns, learned about the appointment of Robert Müller by a special prosecutor to investigate Russia's intervention in the American elections. The president lost his temper and harshly reported to Seshns. Trump said that it was the minister’s self -expense that led to the loss of the administration of control over the investigation. The President told Seshns that the decision to appoint him the head of the Ministry of Justice "was one of the worst", called him "an idiot" and demanded to resign.
Seoshns wrote a resignation statement. However, Vice President Michael Pence, already former senior adviser to President Stephen Bannon and Rains Pribus, who then headed the White House apparatus stood up for the minister. They told Trump that the adoption of the resignation of Sehns "would only lead to greater chaos within the administration and to the speeches of the Republicans against the president in Congress."
As a result, Trump returned to Seshns a resignation statement, and also wrote by hand a response to the minister.
According to the sources of the publication, the relationship between Trump and Sessions has improved only from the middle of the summer, after the head of the Ministry of Justice began "publicly hunts for those administration employees involved in the issues of national security who organized a leak of secret information."
Representatives of the White House and the Ministry of Justice refused to comment on the publication information about the conflict of Trump and Sehns.
On March 2, The Washington Post reported that Seshns in 2016 met twice with a sour . It was argued that he did not mention these meetings at the hearing in the Senate when he considered his candidacy for the post of head of the Ministry of Justice. Then the Democrats demanded the immediate resignation of Seshns. The next day, the official took self -confrontation from participation in all investigations regarding the election campaign of Trump.
