The artistic director of the Theater of Nations Yevgeny Mironov said that the premiere of the play "Tchaikovsky" directed by Kirill Serebrennikov, who is now under house arrest on charges of embezzlement, is scheduled for the beginning of the 2018/2019 season.
“I really believe in it. That at the end of the season [2017/2018], rehearsals of his new performance will begin in our theater,” Mironov said.
Mironov said that he intends to play in the play, TASS reports .
“He is my friend, he is a very close person to me. I am having a very hard time with this situation. I am in touch with his lawyer, with his comrades, colleagues in the theater. We will do everything we can,” he said.
- Kirill Serebrennikov has been under house arrest since the end of August. He is accused of organizing the theft of more than 60 million rubles allocated to his theater company "Seventh Studio" to work on the "Platform" project.
- In May, when Serebrennikov’s house and the Gogol Center theater he headed were searched, Yevgeny Mironov gave President Vladimir Putin a letter in support of the director and asked him about the actions of the investigating authorities, to which he allegedly replied: “Yes, fools.” Mironov was one of those who vouched for Kirill Serebrennikov after his arrest.
- Among the theaters where performances directed by Serebrennikov are scheduled to be released are the Bolshoi Theater (ballet Nureyev), the Stuttgart Opera (opera Hansel and Gretel), and the Zurich Opera House.
