"You can't wake anyone up in Russia."
Naum Korzhavin
Burning of movie theaters and cars, religious procession in St. Petersburg, open statements with threats to public safety from Orthodox fundamentalist radicals, revival of movements like SERB, attacks on people, disgusting fuss around a commemorative plaque on the house where Boris Nemtsov lived. And zero, absolute zero reactions from government agencies responsible for public peace and law enforcement.
It is a myth that an authoritarian state is strong. It is weak, impotent. And in most cases, it's just missing. It is one thing to put young people in jail for shrugging off an OMON officer with the mental organization of a pre-revolutionary schoolgirl, or to carry out selective exemplary criminal prosecution of a single liberal oligarch or liberal governor, and it is quite another thing to catch real criminals. It is one thing to use the article on extremism to suppress the opposition, and quite another to punish those whom it really directly concerns, fascists and fundamentalists, from words to deeds.
The state called for help in governing the country of the Russian Orthodox Church, the church was awakened by fundamentalism, he, in the words of Lenin, launched an agitation, and it was “picked up, expanded, strengthened, tempered” by representatives of a self-organized gopota, poisoned by conspiracy theories and wild ideas about reality. And here is the result...
The state voluntarily relinquishes its monopoly on legitimate violence. He withdraws from the performance of his functions. And in that clearing, from where the state left, people “driven to despair” by the late Matilda Kshesinskaya come. A kind of grass-roots fascism, ultra-nationalism of "grass roots" is born.
Now, however, gopote and this is not enough. She does not need power in the Kremlin, as long as she has power on the street
Where there is no state, there is self-government. Only this is not local self-government, which this state has learned to either suppress or imitate. This is real, untethered self-government - the self-government of gopota. That layer that was marginal and defecated itself only in the “comments” of social networks, and now has become the ideological mainstream and almost became the mainstream on the streets.
The commercial intelligentsia, which owns a cultural infrastructure like a network of cinemas and has been scaring itself all these years with the thesis that free elections will bring the fascists to power, surrenders itself to the gope in advance. And the space from where it leaves is naturally filled with gopota.
And gopota expands the space of its presence not only in the heads and virtual networks, but also physically - on the streets and in the urban infrastructure.
If the state does not stop gopota, then it encourages it? Yes and no.
It gave birth to it, armed it with Surkov's slogans and summer camps at the expense of taxpayers, and published it. It found support and a social base in it, formed cannon and electoral fodder out of it, inflamed hatred for the "liberals" and condescendingly looked at direct actions - from dousing with brilliant green to beatings and arson.
Now, however, gopote and this is not enough. She does not need power in the Kremlin, as long as it is enough that she has power on the street. Perhaps the state is alarmed by this - cannon and electoral fodder, indoctrinated and intoxicated by the ideology of the great Orthodox-Chekist power, suddenly got out of control. He was raised like a lawn, painted in the colors of the imperial flag, and received weeds-grass. But since the state has forgotten how to perform the banal function of law enforcement, it is perplexedly silent, waiting for further instructions from above. And no instructions are given. Paralyzed everyone there, or what? Well, that's right, it's not for you to engage in trolling, issue warnings to independent media and make plans for regional election campaigns ...
The system, whose main feature was considered to be stability and pharmaceutically precise balance, publicly revealed its helplessness, instability and imbalance, which can be aggravated by fundamentalist scumbags and teenagers engaged in telephone hooliganism. In order to reach an equilibrium state, it will either have to learn materiel again, restoring the skills of police functions that are normal for a normal state, which, generally speaking, is not at all easy after decades of loss of competencies and skills, or lead a fundamentalist wave with fasting, prayer and banners, turning already state discourse into an even more conservative, protective, nationalistic-church one. Although, it would seem, there is nowhere else to go ...
In the meantime, it is not so much fear that is physically palpable as stupor in the Kremlin. Moreover, the imbalance, the loss of controllability of the system and the emergence of pockets of gopota self-government occur during the de facto campaign to prepare for the celebration of the entry into his own post of the President of Russia.
If this system cannot stop a humble member of the State Duma, a poor girl who is confused in her feelings for Nicholas II, then how is she going to force her to walk in formation and drive the genie of Orthodox fundamentalism back into the bottle?
