VimpelCom is looking for a supplier of a high - precision system for determining the geolocation of mobile devices on its network. Information about such a tender is available in the operator’s materials. The operator wants to learn about the data transfer speed on each device and process it automatically, says its representative Anna Aibasheva. Until now, the company received such data in a semi-automatic mode, using data on the average load on the base station, correlating them with population density and smartphone penetration in each region. The new solution will make it possible to obtain geocoordinates and the speed of a smartphone with an accuracy of up to 100 m and kilobytes per second, Aibasheva clarifies.

VimpelCom needs information about movements in order to more accurately place base stations, she explains. And this, in turn, will increase the efficiency of investments in network construction and improve the quality of communication.

Operators have been trying to save on construction for the last two or three years, notes Telecom Daily CEO Denis Kuskov. For example, VimpelCom had a record low level of investment last year.
