In Belgorod, newspapers were confiscated from volunteers of Navalny’s headquarters to check for extremism

On September 16, newspapers were confiscated from the volunteers of the campaign headquarters of Alexei Navalny to check for extremism. This was reported on September 19 by the 7 × 7 portal.

Four volunteers who were handing out newspapers were stopped on Cathedral Square, the portal reports from the words of Yevgeny Sokolov, a lawyer for the headquarters. First, officers of the patrol service began to talk to them, then they were joined by female officers and a man who introduced himself as the head of the Belgorod police station. Volunteers were told that they were distributing extremist materials and demanded that they go to the police department.

Then, according to Sokolov, a man appeared who introduced himself as an employee of the Center for Combating Extremism and took away one newspaper. Volunteers were searched on the street, protocols were drawn up, newspapers, stickers and bags with inscriptions in support of Navalny were confiscated, after which they were taken to the department. Only one of them, a minor, was released.

Sokolov was not immediately allowed to see the volunteers, a call to the department of his own security helped.

When the volunteers were released, the portal does not report.

A similar story happened to the volunteers of the Belgorod headquarters on July 15, 2017. Then newspapers were confiscated from them in the park to check for extremism. The results of the test are still not known.
