The court rejected the complaints of participants in the Bakhchisarai case of Hizb ut-Tahrir to extend the arrest

On September 21, the Supreme Court of Crimea recognized as legal the decision to extend the arrest until November 12 for three participants in the Bakhchisarai “Hizb ut-Tahrir case” - Rustem Abiltarov, Zevri Abseitov and Remzi Memetov. This was reported by the publication “Crimea. Realities." The date of consideration of the appeal to extend the arrest of the fourth defendant in the Bakhchisarai “Hizb ut-Tahrir case,” Enver Mamutov, is still unknown.

Today's court hearing was held behind closed doors; only Remzi Memetov's relatives were allowed to hear the decision; the rest were not allowed to be present in the courtroom.

“We did not expect a different result. Traditionally, no one except Memetov’s relatives was allowed into the courtroom. But our heroes are in fighting condition, despite the difficult conditions in the pre-trial detention center - now there is no water there. They were glad to learn that their compatriots, the jamaat, had gathered outside the court to support the prisoners,” noted Dilyaver Memetov, coordinator of the Crimean Solidarity association.

On September 8, the Supreme Court of Crimea extended the arrest period for those involved in the Bakhchisaray “Hizb ut-Tahrir case” until November 12.

On May 12, searches were carried out in five houses and cafes in Bakhchisarai. Four people were detained and taken to the FSB headquarters in Simferopol: Enver Mamutov is accused of organizing a terrorist cell, and Rustem Abiltarov, Remzi Memetov and Zevri Abseitov are accused of participating in it.

The Islamist party Hizb ut-Tahrir was recognized as a terrorist organization by decision of the Supreme Court. However, a number of experts from human rights organizations believe that there is no reason for this, since members of Hizb ut-Tahrir were not found to be involved in committing or preparing terrorist attacks. In recent years, in different regions of Russia, many cases have been opened under the article on the activities of a terrorist organization, in which people are actually accused of terrorism solely on the basis of “party activities” (meetings, reading literature).
