The Volgograd regional court ordered Alexei Volkov, the coordinator of the local headquarters of Alexei Navalny's presidential campaign, not to leave the regional capital. Volkov is accused of rehabilitating Nazism for publishing a picture of the Motherland monument with his face stained with brilliant green.

A representative of the FSIN asked to send Volkov to a pre-trial detention center, the prosecutor’s office did not support this request and asked to leave him under house arrest, but in Volgograd, and not in St. Petersburg at his place of registration.

Volkov is accused of rehabilitating Nazism (Article 354.1 of the Criminal Code). According to investigators, at the end of July he desecrated the symbol of military glory by publishing on the Internet a picture depicting the Motherland monument with his face stained with brilliant green. The start of the consideration of the case on the merits is scheduled for October 2.

The oppositionist was placed under house arrest at the end of August. The reason for choosing a preventive measure was cited by the security forces as a violation of the undertaking not to leave the place.

An image of the “Motherland” wearing greenery was published in the community of Navalny supporters in March. Later, the opposition explained that the picture was posted by a volunteer, and community administrators apologized for it. The picture was published from a device belonging to Volkov.
