In St. Petersburg, the support campaign for the journalist of Novaya Gazeta Ali Feruza continues. Last weekend, a charity evening was held in the center of civil initiatives “Open Space”, in which poets, musicians, and artists took part. The journalist was detained on August 1 in Moscow on charges of violation of migration legislation. The day before, he filed a complaint against the refusal of the Russian authorities to provide him with political asylum. The Basmanny Court of Moscow decided to deport the journalist to Uzbekistan, but the ECHR indicated to the Russian authorities that Feruz should not be expelled from the country during the entire time of consideration of his case in Strasbourg. Ali Feruz cannot return to Uzbekistan, since there he can be arrested on false charges of cooperation with terrorist organizations. Now Ali Feruz is in the center of temporary detention of foreigners (Suvsig) in Moscow. At an impromptu auction, more than 20 thousand rubles were raised, which will go to pay for programs by Ali Feruza and other prisoners of Suvsig.
