How is a young successful woman - a practicing lawyer, a specialist in civil law - ended up in the Mordovian colony? “Drugs are not chosen,” says Aidana. “This is an illusion that there are some kind of protected lifestyle, that if you are successful, if you took place, this does not happen to you.”
In women's camps, everything is much more strictly arranged than in male. There is no means of communication, there is no Internet, the arrival of once every six months of a Moscow lawyer is a real event. Legal assistance, human rights activists are words from some other world. But Aidan could not sit idle, she began to help those who sat with her. She wrote complaints, helped to understand legal matters, advised.

According to this recognition, the young man turned out to be a real drug lord, only bad luck - drugs, except for the same dose, were not found. But nothing, if there is a “confess”, then the police write down the “attempt to sell drugs” - this is when “I really wanted to sell, but it didn’t work”. Immediately after the arrest, his mother died, it was interesting for relatives to share the apartment, but then it turned out so well - a minus applicant for square meters. Before the arrest, the young man went to a “new life”, and simultaneously tried to tie with drugs, so Idan defends him now. And no one else is doing it.

She finished with addictions, restored relations with her family and with children - and went to work as a volunteer in a “new life”. The habit of helping Idan has the strength to survive in the most difficult conditions. Now this is her daily job. “The matter of life? Oh, it sounds very pathos! " - Aydana laughs cheerfully. We are sitting opposite the fashionable Orenburg confectionery with a cartoon name, the door opens every now and then, funny people come out with boxes and coffee.
And a woman enters the next door, where the new life office is located low, lowering her face. Living with a positive HIV status, especially in a small city, is even more difficult than with prison experience.
New life
A person who finds himself in places of imprisonment does not cause any sympathy. “So there was something for”, “let him sit”, “it’s not a pity.” But still it is not as difficult as a “positive status”. In addition to the "new life", those who have HIV+in Orenburg are not engaged in no one is engaged in. HIV is Stigma; This is a fat note on a medical record; This is your child who was not taken to kindergarten; This is an employer who has to explain with the results of a physical examination on his hands. Formally, in our country there is no discrimination, and in the Criminal Code there is even an article for the disclosure of the diagnosis, only in life everything goes differently.
“She was shifted from the ward to the corridor, in public was declared a diagnosis, told what a drug addict and a prostitute she is,” Aidana tells the story of one of her wards, a young girl with a positive HIV status. “This imaginary drug addiction was introduced to her and refused to do a planned cardiological operation.”
Aydana explained to the leadership of the hospital, what consequences this is fraught for them. It took a lot of time to correct the situation, but the final was a mandatory lecture for employees.

After six months of work in the "New Life", Aidan went to Moscow, to the "School of the Public Defender". I ask - why should she, lawyer, study human rights? Aydana grins:
“You can’t even imagine how the system works crookedly, how much you need to know and understand that it will work correctly. Not to mention the fact that only in Shoz they explained to me how to properly submit documents to our Supreme Court and the ECHR. Often this is the only instance where something can be changed. ”
