In the suburbs they are going to erect a monument to Malevich

In the village of Romashkovo, the Odintsovo district of the Moscow region, a monument to Kazimir Malevich will be erected. The project of the monument was selected following an open competition.

This was reported by the site of the administration of the Odintsovo district with reference to the acting Deputy Head of the Administration Vera Strelnikov.

“Casimir Malevich often traveled to the village of Nemchinovka, where after 1917 the parents of his wife Sofia Mikhailovna moved. Few people know that the work of the great artist was not limited to Suprematism. They say that it was Nemchinovka and her surroundings that inspired Casimir Malevich to return to traditional painting. It was during this period that many landscapes were written there. The construction of an architectural structure in the village of Romashkovo, in honor of the great artist, will be a large cultural event in the Odintsovo district, ”said Strelnikova.

The project of the monument was selected in early September following the results of an open competition, held at the initiative of Malevich’s relatives together with the creative Union of Russian artists. When choosing a winning project, the will of the artist was taken into account, in which he asked to create a sculptural structure on the works of his student Nikolai Suetin.

As a result, the sculptor’s project Mikhail Zaikin won. When exactly it is planned to erect a monument, is not reported.

In August 2013, it became known that at the place of burial of Malevich in the Moscow region, an elite residential complex of Romashkovo was built, the regional authorities stated that the grave had no security status. Then, the Minister of Culture of the Moscow Region promised to hold a competition before the end of the year for the best project of the monument to the artist, clarifying that he supports the "idea of ​​creating an architecton in Malevich's style."

At the end of 2013, the regional Ministry of Culture announced a competition for the best project of a memorable sign. The competition was won by the project of the sculptor Alexander Rozhnikov, but he caused objections from the art community and relatives of Malevich, and it was decided to postpone the final decision on the choice of the project of the monument and its installation.
