Tim (Timofei) Skorenko, a journalist and employee of the Russian editorial office of the Popular Mechanics, decided to pay tribute to the scientific and inventive potential of Russia - often an underestimated history (it is in the technological world, as elsewhere, the winners write). Biographical portraits, reasoning about priority in the discoveries and assessing the contribution of Russians to world technological progress - all this formed the basis of the book “Invented in Russia. The history of Russian inventive thought from Peter I to Nicholas II ”(published at the Publishing House of Alpina Non-Fikshn). The chapter chosen by us is dedicated to Mikhail Dobrov-Dobrovolsky, Russian electrical engineering and one of the creators of the three-phase AC system, whom Skorenko calls the main competitor of Nikola Tesla.
