Since September 29, the MTS mobile operator is suspended in Turkmenistan. It is reported by Interfax .
The company explained that such measures are associated with the decision of the local operator of Turkmentelecom to disable the company from international and intercity communication networks. Now MTS is negotiating with Turkmen regulators in order to obtain permission to use frequencies and other necessary resources.
MTS license is valid until July 26, 2018. The contract for the provision of mobile services with the local Ministry of Communications expired in September 2017.
In June, the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov approved the creation of a new Ai Nazar operator in the country instead of “MTS-Turkmenistan”. Sources of the publication claimed that Turkmenistan would not extend the license for the activities of the Russian operator.
According to official data from MTS, in 2015, the number of operator subscribers in Turkmenistan was 1.6 million people.
