Spain police sealed buildings of 1300 out of 2315 schools in Catalonia, in which on Sunday it was planned to open polling stations for a referendum on the independence of the autonomous region. It is reported by Reuters.

Thousands of police officers were sent to the region to ensure order and prevent referendum. They were given an order to prevent the use of public buildings as voting places. The police occupied the building of the telecommunication center of the Zeneralitat (Government) of Catalonia.

Throughout Catalonia, the school, in which polling stations are usually equipped, were closed after the end of the lessons on Friday evening. However, in 163 schools there are activists from among the supporters of the Catalonia department. The police warned them that they should leave school buildings until 6:00 Sunday local time.

On Friday, Google removed an application from his chain store, which is used in order to indicate to voters the place of working areas for voting.

In recent days, the police confiscated the ballots prepared for the referendum, the circulation of electoral materials.

Nevertheless, in Zheeneralitat they said that on Sunday, from 9:00 to 20:00 local time, more than 2.3 thousand polling stations would work. "Everything is ready for voting for more than 2 thousand polling stations, there are urns for voting, ballots, all in order for people to express their opinion," said Catalonia President Carles Puchdemon.

On September 6, the Catalonia Parliament appointed a referendum on the independence of the region as of October 1 . Puchdemon almost immediately signed a document. According to the adopted law, in the case of a referendum favorable for separatists, independence will be proclaimed within 48 hours after its completion.

The next day, the Constitutional Court of Spain suspended the effect of the document adopted in Barcelona. The Constitution of Spain really does not give the regions the possibility of leaving the country.

However, on September 8, the Catalan parliament adopted the law on independence , designed to fulfill the role of the temporary constitution of the region after its separation from Spain.

On September 20, the Spanish government took control of the finances of Catalonia. Thus, the central authorities stopped the spending of money to prepare a referendum. On the same day, the Civil Guard of Spain spent searches in the premises of Zeneralitat (Government), according to which 12 large regional officials were detained.

Since the beginning of September, mass demonstrations have been held in Catalonia in support of independence. However, in some cities of the region and all over Spain, opponents of the Catalonia Department also come to their protests.
