Chief of the General Staff of Ukraine Viktor Muzhenko in an interview with Reuters said that Russia did not withdraw its troops from Belarus after the Zapad-2017 exercises. According to Muzhenko, only "several units" and aviation left Belarus.
The official representative of the Russian Defense Ministry, Major General Igor Konashenkov, said that all Russian troops involved in the exercises had been withdrawn from the territory of Belarus. According to Konashenkov, Muzhenko is unsuitable for professionalism, since he does not know what is happening a few hundred kilometers from Kyiv.
- The joint exercises of Russia and Belarus "West-2017" were held from 14 to 20 September 2017. They were attended by up to 13 thousand people. One of the stages involved working out the reaction during an attack on the Union State .
- The West reacted negatively to the exercises. Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite claimed that Russia was preparing to attack NATO.
- Two Russian military facilities are located in Belarus: the Volga radar station for warning of a missile attack and the 43rd communication center of the Russian Navy for communication between the General Staff and submarines.
