Larisa Volpert died

On October 1, literary critic Larisa Volpert died in New York at the age of 91.

Larisa Ilyinichna Volpert was born in 1926 in Leningrad, in 1949 she graduated from the Romano-German branch of the University of Leningrad. Candidate (1955), Doctor (1989) of Philological Sciences. The USSR champion in chess (1954, 1958, 1959), grandmaster (1978).

Since 1962 she taught at the Pskov Pedagogical Institute, since 1977 she worked at the Department of Russian Literature, since 1985 - at the Department of Foreign Literature of the University of Tartu (1990 - Professor, 1993 - Honorary Professor). As an invited lecturer, she also gave lectures in the Sorbonne, universities of Israel, Finland and the USA.

The main areas of scientific research of Larisa Volpert were the history of French literature, the relationship of Russian and French literature, and Pushkinism. Among her scientific works “Pushkin and the psychological tradition in French literature” (1980), “Pushkin in the role of Pushkin” (1998), “Lermontov and France Literature” (2005), “Pushkin France” (2007), “Lermontov and Literature of France” (2008), “Pushkin France” (2010).
