30% of government officials and federal ministries purchased Toyota cars for personal use. This was shown by a study of income declarations of 30,000 federal civil servants, conducted by Indadata on behalf of The New Times . The second most popular brand was Nissan, and the third most popular car brand was Kia.
European brands are inferior to Japanese and Korean ones in terms of popularity among the capital's officials, but they prevail in the private compartments of ministers and vice-premiers. Senior officials prefer BMW and Mercedes.
The domestic auto industry is not in such demand, the study showed: the cars of the Volga Automobile Plant are only in 6th place in popularity among officials. The highest number of them was acquired by senior officers of the Ministry of Defense.
