In Sao Paulo arrested 16 suspects who were going to rob the Bank of Brazil.
To get to the bank's vault, the criminals dug a tunnel 600 meters long, reinforced it with metal racks and conducted electricity into it. TV channel Globo reports that they spent about 4 million Brazilian reais (about $1.3 million) on preparatory work.
According to the police, the criminals planned to complete the preparations for the robbery by Wednesday, October 4. They were detained as a result of the operation carried out on Monday.
The State Bank of Brazil is the largest and oldest in the country. The robbers were going to take out of it 1 billion reais (more than 300 million dollars). If successful, this robbery would be the largest in Brazilian history.
