Roskomnadzor intends to approximately halve the number of entries in the Unified Register of Prohibited Sites by removing from it entries relating to the same resource made by different government agencies, the Izvestia newspaper writes, citing Denis Paltsin, head of the control and supervision department in the field of communications of Roskomnadzor.
According to Paltsin, the register is limited in volume and in total about 1 million entries can be added to it. This limitation is due to the so-called routing table, which has a certain number of rows and is used by telecom operators to block access to prohibited sites. At the same time, on average there are about five addresses in the registry per blocked resource. Thus, the registry now has about half a million entries.
Earlier, the head of the department for control and supervision in the field of electronic communications of Roskomnadzor, Evgeny Zaitsev, said that from November 1, the agency will be able to independently determine methods for blocking resources, which will allow the registry to be cleaned.
“If Roskomnadzor determines ways to restrict access to sites, then we will be able to exclude individual links if the main domain is also included in the registry. Thus, we will be able to remove duplicates and reduce the number of entries in the registry by half,” Zaitsev explained.
However, if the current rate of replenishment of the registry continues, then in a few years the routing table used by operators will be full. In this regard, Paltsin noted that Roskomnadzor will think about a new approach to blocking.
In turn, VimpelCom official representative Anna Aibasheva noted that the ability to block resources can be increased through the purchase of modern equipment. According to her, most modern carrier-class routers allow you to enter significantly more than 1 million addresses into the table.
Let us recall that at the end of July Roskomnadzor reported on blocking of sites over the five years that have passed since the law on restricting access to resources with prohibited information came into force. According to the report, during this time Roskomnadzor blocked about 275 thousand sites.
The largest number of resources (over 97 thousand) were entered into the register on the basis of court decisions declaring information prohibited. In second place (more than 70 thousand) were resources promoting the spread of drugs. Over 43 thousand pages were blocked for the illegal organization and conduct of online gambling and lotteries, more than 38 thousand were included in the register for child pornography and more than 25 thousand for suicidal content. Also in the Roskomnadzor report it was reported that during the validity of the law, more than 178 thousand pages were excluded from the register, the owners of which deleted prohibited information.
