1897 Creation of the Bund

120 years ago, on October 7, 1897, the Bund was created in Vilna (Vilnius) - the All-Russian Jewish Workers' Union in Lithuania, Poland and Russia. This Marxist organization advocated the socialization of the means of production, the democratization of the Russian Empire, national and cultural autonomy for Eastern European Jewry, the creation of a secular education system, the development of culture in the Yiddish language, and was against the emigration of Jews to Palestine. The slogan of the Bund was: "Where we live, there is our country."
