The ECHR ordered Russia to pay 285 thousand euros to relatives of those killed in new Aldes

The ECHR ordered Russia to pay 285 thousand euros compensation for moral damage in 17 claims filed by relatives of those who died in Boyne, which the feds arranged in February 2000 in the village of New Alda near Grozny. The decision is published on the court website.

At 16 claims, the ECHR awarded the applicants of 15 thousand euros. The court ordered another lawsuit to pay 15 thousand euros to each of the three applicants.

In addition, Russia is obliged to compensate each of the plaintiffs of 2.5 thousand euros of legal costs.

Russia found guilty of violation of Article 2 (right to life) of the European Convention. A number of applicants also accused Russia of violating Article 13 (the right to an effective means of legal protection), indicating that crimes in the new Aldes were not investigated. However, the ECHR considered it unnecessary to explore this accusation.

At the same time, 12 applicants in 2015 informed the court that they received compensation from Russia for the death of relatives in the amount of 1-1.4 million rubles. They asked the judges to take this circumstance into account when considering the case.

Since April 2015, the interests of all applicants were represented by the lawyer of Dokka Itslaev, the chairman of the Chechen branch of Memorial. In 2015-2016, he defended in Grozny the defendant of the UNA-UNSO case Nikolai Karpyuk, and later-also Stanislav Klykh.

The current decision of the ECHR is not the first in the case of murders in the new Aldes. In October 2006, the Strasbourg court ordered Russia to pay 220 thousand euros to the Estamirov family , the five members of which died in Boyne. In July 2007, five applicants were awarded to compensation for 143 thousand euros .

On February 5, 2000, in the midst of the Second Chechen War, the St. Petersburg and Ryazan riot police held in the new Alda "stripping", during which they burst into the homes, demanding money and jewelry, and shot civilians.
