Gleb Yuryevich Maksimov (1926-2001) was born in Ufa, since the 1930s, after the arrest of her father, he lived with her mother in Moscow, where she worked in the All-Union Book Chamber. After graduation, he entered the Moscow Aviation Institute. During his studies, he was a participant in the stratospheric student circle created by his fellow student Yan Koltunov. After graduating from the institute in 1949, Maksimov and Koltunov were hired by the Ministry of Defense, located in Bolshev, in the Bolshev, in the group of Mikhail Tikhonravov, who was developing multi-stage missiles, and later spacecraft.
One of the reports of the young designer attracted the attention of Sergei Korolev, and he in 1956 achieved the transfer of Gleb Maksimov to his OKB-1. The first satellite was followed by the development of new near -Earth satellites, as well as the spacecraft of the Luna series. For the creation of the Luna-3 automatic station, Gleb Maksimov received the USSR State Prize.
For the Luna-9 automatic interplanetary station, the team under the leadership of Maximov worked on the creation of a soft landing system (E-6 program). On February 3, 1966, the Luna-9 apparatus for the first time in the history of space development made a soft landing on the surface of the moon. The mass of the descent device was one hundred kilograms.
Gleb MaksimovSince the beginning of the 1960s, Gleb Maksimov and the group of designers headed by him worked on projects of automatic spacecraft to study the planets closest to the Earth. They prepared the devices of the series "Mars" and "Venus". A special project was a heavy interplanetary ship intended for a manned flight to Mars. The flight was supposed to take place on June 8, 1971 during the great confrontation of the Earth and Mars. The estimated date of the return of the Martian expedition was July 10, 1974. The ship is 12 meters long, with a diameter of up to 6 meters and weighing 75 tons consisted of four compartments: residential, worker (with a gateway for exit into outer space), biological and aggregate. The complex also included a descent device and a corrective motor installation. Preparations for the flight have been conducted since 1960, complete design documentation has already been prepared and the ground modules of the ship have been built, but in the second half of the 60s the project was canceled.
Some time after the death of Sergei Korolev in 1968, Gleb Maksimov with a group of employees moved to the Institute of Cosmic Research. There, the Maximov group was engaged in design work on the design of automatic devices for the study of the Moon, Mars, Venus and Jupiter. Among Maximov prepared by Maximov was the Venus Long -term project, in which, due to the improvement of thermal protection systems and thermoregulation of the descent apparatus, the duration of its operation on the surface of Venus could be extended up to ten days. But since the institute did not have its own production base these projects laid “on the table”. In this regard, in 1977, Maximov, with part of his team, moved to the All -Russian Research Institute of Electromechanics, where he worked on the construction of satellites.
Gleb Maksimov died in Moscow on August 26, 2001.
