Qualcomm sues to ban iPhone production in China

Mobile device chip maker Qualcomm has filed a lawsuit in Beijing's intellectual property court demanding a ban on the production of Apple smartphones in China, Bloomberg reports.

It is reported that the Qualcomm lawsuit, which continues the patent war between Qualcomm and Apple, was filed on September 29, but it became known only last Friday. Qualcomm spokeswoman Christine Trimble said the company accuses Apple of using patents it owns without paying any royalties. We are talking about three patents related to smartphone energy management and Force Touch touch display control technology.

In turn, an Apple representative said that the lawsuit, like previous Qualcomm lawsuits, has no prospects, and the patents mentioned were never discussed during negotiations between Apple and Qualcomm.

Let us recall that the litigation between Qualcomm and Apple began in January of this year, when Apple filed a lawsuit against Qualcomm for $1 billion, in which it accused its partner of abusing its position in the market and establishing enslaving conditions for licensing its patents. Apple later filed two more lawsuits against Qualcomm in the courts of China and the UK.

In April, Qualcomm filed a counterclaim against Apple, accusing the Cupertino company of a number of abuses related to its partnership with Qualcomm. Qualcomm later filed lawsuits against Foxconn, Pegatron, Wistron and Compal, which assemble Apple smartphones. The chipmaker accused them of stopping paying royalties for the use of Qualcomm's patented technologies.

In July, Qualcomm filed another lawsuit against Apple along with a complaint to the US International Trade Commission. In these appeals, the company demanded to ban the import of iPhones and iPads into the United States, as well as the sale of previously imported devices.
