EU imposes new sanctions on North Korea

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree imposing restrictions on North Korea in response to its nuclear missile tests. We are talking about restrictions in the field of scientific and technical cooperation. This was reported on the official Internet portal of legal information.

The decree was signed in connection with the adoption of UN resolution 2321 of November 31, 2016.

Cooperation is allowed "in the field of nuclear science and technology, aerospace engineering and aeronautical engineering, or advanced manufacturing technologies and methods" and other areas only if it does not contribute to the development of North Korea's nuclear and ballistic programs. The restrictions do not apply to the field of medicine.

Additional restrictions are being introduced on cooperation in the transport sector: the supply of new helicopters and ships to the DPRK is prohibited. Ships owned or controlled by the DPRK must be deregistered.

Measures for screening aircraft and ships of the DPRK on the territory of UN member states are also being tightened.

In addition, a list of materials, technologies and products, the supply of which to the DPRK is prohibited, has been approved. The restrictions also affected some luxury items, including carpets and tapestries worth more than $500, and china or bone china dishes worth more than $100.

Earlier, on September 12, the members of the UN Security Council unanimously voted for the imposition of new sanctions against the DPRK.

North Korea has limited the supply of petroleum products, set a limit on crude oil - supplies should not exceed the figures for the last 12 months. Pyongyang was also banned from buying condensates and natural gas liquids, as well as from selling textile products.

Recall that in September, the DPRK conducted two launches of ballistic missiles. All of them were launched towards Japan. In addition, North Korea conducted the sixth and largest nuclear test in the history of the country. Pyongyang said it had tested a hydrogen bomb.
