The first batch of iPhone X turned out to be record small

Foxconn, which produces iPhone X smartphones for Apple, has shipped the first batch of devices, DigiTimes reports.

In total, the company shipped 46.5 thousand new smartphones to the Netherlands and the UAE - the volume of the batch was significantly smaller than the volume of the first batches of previous iPhone models, which could lead to a serious shortage of iPhone X on the market.

According to sources, Foxconn recently managed to increase the production volume of the iPhone X from 100 to 400 thousand devices per week, but even with this volume of production, Apple will not be able to satisfy the demand for the new smartphone. It is possible that the relatively modest scale of production may be associated with technical difficulties, rumors about which appeared more than once in the media even before the presentation of the smartphone.

Let us remember that the iPhone X was officially presented in early September. The smartphone received a 5.8-inch OLED display that occupies almost the entire front surface, support for wireless charging technology, as well as a Face ID scanning and recognition system for the owner’s face, which replaced the usual fingerprint sensor. Acceptance of pre-orders for the iPhone X will begin on October 27, and the start of sales in the “first wave” countries is scheduled for November 3. The smartphone will be available in 64GB and 256GB versions, and its price will start at $999.

Previously, well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from KGI Securities predicted that by the end of 2017, iPhone X sales could reach 30-35 million units, but given the given production volumes, the forecast looks unlikely.
