“Agora” is a team of 30 lawyers who have been defending human rights in Russia since the beginning of 2000. They have experience in affairs against the FSB and annually publish reports on the freedom of the Internet in Russia, ”Durov explained his decision.
Chikov confirmed Republic that the lawyers of the Agora will represent the interests of Telegram. He noted that this will be a difficult job in which several employees of the human rights group will be involved.
The day before, the messenger was fined 800 thousand rubles for refusing to transfer the FSB to the information necessary to decipher user messages. Pavel Durov said that the messenger will appeal the court decision “until the FSB’s lawsuit is considered by the judge familiar with the basic law of Russia - its constitution”.
The messenger is included in the register of information distribution organizers (Ori). According to the Law “On Information”, he is obliged to store user traffic for six months and transfer data to security forces on request.
