The temple of St. Catherine should be built in an atmosphere of public consent, Kuyvashev emphasized. “I made a decision to address the other site for the construction of the Church of St. Catherine in the spring. Of course, it would be incorrect to make such statements during the election campaign. But the key to the successful implementation of this good business in turning it into a general civil project,” the governor said.

As a result of the discussion, it was decided to recommend the urban planning council to consider the option of building a temple on a site near the Drama Theater.

The Yekaterinburg Metropolitan said they did not mind the proposed new site for the temple. “Great place,” Abniamine (Raikov) told Nakanune.ru. According to him, the project for building a temple on the pond appeared "as a compromise option" after it was not possible to agree on its construction "in a historical place" in the area of ​​labor.

The temple of St. Catherine, founded in the XVIII and demolished in the Soviet years, intends to build for the 300th anniversary of Yekaterinburg, which will be celebrated in 2023.

The project for the construction of the temple in the pond caused protests in Yekaterinburg. Dissatisfied residents, in particular, indicated that the temple with a height of the 20-story building would destroy the historical appearance of the city center, and could also bring to the cloth of the pond. The ill -conceived project was also noted from the point of view of transport infrastructure.

In April, about a thousand inhabitants of Yekaterinburg staged a flash mob "hugging a pond" on a dam to express their attitude to the design of the temple.

They were released from the police without drawing up protocols, photographing and taking fingerprints.

The Kirovsky District Court of Yekaterinburg arrested the activist for seven days under part 8 of Article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (repeated violation of the procedure for public events).
