15 years ago, on October 18, 2002, in the center of Moscow on Novy Arbat, Governor of the Magadan Region Valentin Tsvetkov was killed from a pistol with a silencer. Versions of the investigation were connected with the distribution of fishing quotas for marine biological resources, as well as with fraud in the field of gold mining.
The perpetrator of the murder Alexander Zakharov and the customer Martin Babakesyan were arrested on July 7, 2006 in the Spanish resort of Marbella and were subsequently extradited to Russia. In 2011, they, as well as other people who ordered the murder - Artur Anisimov and Masis Akhunts - were sentenced to 13.5 to 19 years in prison.
In 2012, the Moscow City Court sentenced Vladimir Golban, nicknamed Moldovan, to life imprisonment, whom the jury found guilty of organizing the murder of Tsvetkov. His accomplice Sergei Filippenko received eight years.
