The police opened a case of threats to journalist Ekaterina Vinokurova because of “Matilda”

The police opened a case under the article “threat to kill or cause grievous bodily harm” (Article 119 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) because of threats against Znak.com correspondent Ekaterina Vinokurova. It is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to a source in the police.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that the case had been initiated "based on the results of an additional check on the application of a journalist from one of the publications." A RIA Novosti source said that it was about Vinokurova.

• Ekaterina Vinokurova announced the threats against her at the end of August. According to her, she was threatened in connection with the publications about the scandal surrounding the film "Matilda", which is opposed by Orthodox activists.
• On October 16, the journalist reported that the police had refused to open a case. The district police officer concluded that the threats “were of a ‘virtual’ nature and cannot be perceived realistically” (Vinokurova wrote: “If the film comes out, wait for a screwdriver in the side at night in the Izmailovsky district”).
