The Crimean department of the Russian FSB filed an official indictment against a member of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, activist Suleiman Kadyrov. “The uniqueness of this case lies in the fact that the criminal case was initiated more than a year ago - on October 11, 2016. From a legal point of view, the evidence and validity of the charges are very vague. Based on the examinations that are in the case materials, that repost and those comments, which, according to the investigation, belong to Suleiman Kadyrov, do not contain calls for anything. They contain approval, agreement with the position, but there are no calls. And the article of the Code says that actions must contain calls,” the publication quotes lawyer Ladin as saying.
Kadyrov himself denies the accusations.
On October 5, 2016, a search was conducted at Suleiman Kadyrov’s house in Feodosia, during which his phone and computer were confiscated. The search was carried out in connection with statements allegedly made by Kadyrov that Crimea is a territory of Ukraine. On October 10, Kadyrov was summoned for questioning.
On October 11, 2016, a criminal case was opened against Kadyrov under Part 2 of Article 280.1 of the Criminal Code (public calls for actions aimed at violating the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation, committed using the media or electronic or information and telecommunication networks, the maximum sanction is imprisonment up to five years).
In April 2017, the activist was added to the list of terrorists and extremists, and therefore his bank card was also blocked.
