On October 18, employees of the Center for Combating Extremism searched the house of Airat Shakirov, an activist of the Tatar national movement. It is reported by "Idel. Realii" with reference to the radio "Azatlyk".
According to Shakirov, the search is related to a criminal case initiated against the All-Tatar Public Center. He believes that "the goal (of the employees of the Center" E ") is the elimination of the WTOTS."
“A lot connects me with the All-Tatar Public Center. Therefore, they decided that I might have documents related to this organization. A representative of the center for combating extremism and a district police officer came to see me. Books and computers related to the previous criminal case initiated against me have been in the Investigative Committee for Tatarstan for several years. They were only recently returned,” the activist said.
Earlier, in May of the same year, the court recognized the VTOC branch in Naberezhnye Chelny as an extremist organization. Zakiev stated that he had nothing to do with this branch of the VTOC. * Airat Shakirov, who was accused of inciting hatred, was sentenced in May 2017 to a fine of one hundred thousand rubles and was immediately released from payment due to the statute of limitations.
The reason for opening the case was a video from a rally in Makhachkala on February 8, 2013, posted on Shakirov's page on the VKontakte social network and recognized as extremist. Shakirov claimed that he did not publish the video, like some other videos on his page. The participants of the rally in Makhachkala, which brought together about a thousand people, opposed the arbitrariness of the security forces. * In January 2015, Shakirov was arrested for ten days for two images in support of Ukraine on the VKontakte social network - a collage and a cartoon with a swastika. The caricature, where a man with a whip drives a swastika from Donbass, was accompanied by the inscription "Russia, go home". Then the judge in the ruling pointed out that the association of the swastika with Russia is unacceptable.
