In Georgia, the party of power won the local elections

The Georgian Dream party won the local elections. According to Radio Liberty, according to preliminary data from the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Georgia, during the municipal elections held last Saturday, the ruling party of the billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili "Georgian Dream" won a convincing victory both in the capital and the whole country.

The opposition, including the "Unified National Movement" by Mikhail Saakashvili, could not compile a "party in power" to serious competition. The mayor of Tbilisi was elected former defender of FC Milan and ex-minister of energy Kakha Kaladze.

One of the leaders of the ruling party "Georgian Dream", in the past, the famous football player, Kahi Kaladze won the first round, gaining a little more than 51 percent of the vote. In all majority districts in Tbilisi, candidates from the ruling party won. According to the party lists, the Georgian Dream is gaining more than 53 percent of the vote, while its main competitor is Mikhail Saakashvili’s Unified National Movement - about 18 percent.

In four out of five “self -governing cities”, where the mayor’s elections were held, the party’s candidate won the first round, and only in Kutaisi the second round will take place. Thus, the opposition party Mikhail Saakashvili suffered a defeat in Georgia.
