A fantastic catastrophe film “Geoshtorm” was released, where the plot engine once again became a global climatic disaster. Colta.ru revised other tapes affecting the topic of climate change and its consequences, and recalls how and what actually works.

Perhaps one of the few films where climate change is not just the cause of the post -apocalypse, you can call the "day after tomorrow." The ribbon of Roland Emmerich, a famous master of salvation of mankind from some global misfortune like aliens or Godzilla, was based on the book of Witley Striber and Art Bell, “The Coming World Super Board”. It is about the fact that the cold Arctic air becomes even colder and, not restrained by the more cooled golfstim, rapidly causes a new ice age in the territory of the Northern Hemisphere.

First, this causes a series of hurricanes that sweep the cities in its path (Los Angeles left very beautifully), and then a sharp cooling. The only one who at least understands what is happening is Paleoclimatologist Jack Hall. He foresaw such a development of events, but not so soon and not so fast. At the height of the unfolding apocalypse, the hero goes on an epic campaign from Washington to New York, where his son, who went to the Olympics for gifted children, stuck in the public library building. Fortunately, dad managed to tell him that one could not go out into the street. He, however, did not obey (for the sake of the girl you just won’t go!) And was almost torn to pieces by wolves on the deck of the Russian ship, by the will of the fate of the fifth Avenue.

Of course, the speed with which events unfold in the film is many times exaggerated. Like individual natural phenomena like a giant wave covering Manhattan, such a wave cannot be caused by a storm, for this we need an underwater earthquake and the tsunami caused by him, says Professor Stefan Ramshtorf from the Potsdam Institute for the Study of Climate change. An earthquake is like what happened in Japan in 2011.

Despite all the unrealism, the creators clearly studied the materiel. There are negotiations between the UN on climate changes, and climatic models, and even a broken piece of the Larsen glacier in Antarctica, about which we experienced in the summer. And in general, from 2017, the film about the fact that “winter is close” looks completely different than from 2004.
