The US authorities canceled the visa to the founder of the Hermitage Capital Foundation William Brauder. He himself reported this on Twitter.
“Not only Putin added me to the Interpol list, but the United States at the same time recalled my visa,” Browner wrote.
Former US Ambassador to Russia Michael McFol called the situation with the American visa of Browner "outrageous." He called on US President Donald Trump and the State Department not to join Putin’s campaign against the head of Hermitage Capital.
On the eve of The Guardian reported that Russia unilaterally introduced a browner to the Interpol search base for the Diffusion ("Dissing") procedure, which allows the announcement of the investigation of the organization to the organization bypassing the Secretary General. This step was authorized by President Vladimir Putin, sources of the publication said.
According to Brauder himself, he was warned about placing an electronic letter from the US Department of National Security in the Interpol base. The document reported that the status of Brauder as a participant in the Global Entry program, simplified visa -free entry into the United States, was canceled. Later, the department specified that such a decision was made due to Brauder entering the Interpol lists through the Diffusion procedure. The visa was not mentioned then.
Several cases have been initiated in Russia against Braudor. In February, the Tver District Court of Moscow arrested Brauder and his companion Ivan Cherkasov in absentia , also living in Britain, in the case of financial fraud. Both Browner and his companion were charged in absentia in accordance with Article 33 - Article 196 (organization of intentional bankruptcy; up to six years of colony), part 3 of article 33 - paragraphs "A", "b" of part 2 of Article 199 (organization of tax evasion made in a group of persons in an especially large amount; also up to six years) and part 2 - part 2 - part 2 of Article 199.1 non -fulfillment of the duties of a tax agent on an especially large scale;
As part of another case, the businessman was charged with tax evasion. In July 2013, the judge of the Tver District Court Igor Alisov in absentia condemned Brauder in this case to nine years in general regime. The second person involved was the auditor Sergei Magnitsky . Alisov declared him guilty, after which he stopped the persecution of Magnitsky in connection with his death. In January 2014, the verdict to Brower and Magnitsky was confirmed .
On August 24, the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office repeatedly demanded that the Interpol put Brauder on the international wanted list . In June, the Ministry of Internal Affairs turned to the International Police Organization with the same request, but they refused to do this there, referring to the previous decision to recognize the persecution of Brauder political.
The pursuit of a businessman in Russia began after he began to seek holding the guilty of Magnitsky's deaths.
