The Chertanovsky Court of Moscow sentenced Yulia Anikeeva, the former president of the Russian Basketball Federation (RBF), to 4.5 years in prison. She was found guilty of embezzling 44 million rubles.
Anikeeva did not appear in court for the announcement of the verdict, in connection with which she was put on the wanted list. TASS reports that she is under house arrest. At the same time, the lawyer of the convict, David Khechyan, stated: “I don’t know where she is at the moment.”
The lawyer also said that his client had sent a letter in which she expressed distrust of the court.
According to the lawyer, Anikeeva’s letter states that she “sees it useless and hopeless to fight in an honest and legal way for her name and freedom due to complete distrust of the court’s decision”, and also “she cannot leave the life of her family to the mercy of her: two minors daughters and an elderly disabled mother.
