Interfax and Fontanka sites are not available because of a hacker attack

Due to the hacker attack, interfax sites stopped working. This was reported on the agency Twitter.

"Due to the hacker attack in the work of Interfax servers, the technical services are taking all measures to restore the work of the systems," the report said.

Now the main website of the agency and sites IFAX.RU, Interfax-russia.ru and Spark-interfax.ru are not available. However, the site "Interfax-religion" continues to open.

Deputy General Director of Interfax Yuri Pogoreryy called the attack "unprecedented."

At the same time, the site of the Fontanka.ru publication stopped open. "The hacker attack on our server. We have serious technical problems, perhaps the site will be unavailable for several hours. We will keep you know the situation," the editorial office said in the Telegram channel.

In February 2016, Google, after several years of closed testing, officially opened access to the DDOS attack protection service called Project Shield. It is a kind of proxy server through which requests received to the site pass. With a suddenly increased load, the service determines the source of DDOS attack and filters network traffic, skipping only ordinary requests that do not threaten the performance of the resource. In addition, with an increased number of requests, Project Shield shows a caching copy, which also reduces the load on the protected server.

The project is primarily intended for media sites and organizations engaged in human rights activities, they emphasized in Google. It was noted that often it is small portals that are unable to withstand the DDOS attack that illuminates any event, the information about which is intentionally hushed up in large media. “Free and open Internet depends on the protection of the free flow of information, starting with the news,” said Google. “Since Project Shield is free, even the smallest independent news organizations will be able to continue their important work without fear that their site will be brought down.”
