Sobyanin again nominates to the mayors of Moscow

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin will nominate his candidacy in the election of the head of the city in 2018. He stated this in an interview with Vedomosti.

“With a high degree of probability, we can say that yes, although we still need to wait for the announcement of the start of the election campaign. I consider it my duty to end the reforms that are in the city,” Sobyanin answered the question of the possibility of nomination for a third term.

Sobyanin refused to discuss rumors about his possibly appointing Prime Minister after the presidential election, adding that "if such rumors appear, it means that this will not happen with almost 100 percent probability." On October 11, Bloomberg wrote that Sobyanin is considered as one of the candidates to replace Dmitry Medvedev.

The election of the Moscow Mayor will be held on a single voting day on September 9, 2018. Ex-deputy of the State Duma Dmitry Gudkov and the leader of the Moscow branch of the Yabloko party, Sergei Mitrokhin, have already announced their participation in the election campaign. To nominate a candidate from a non -parliamentary party or self -nominated, it will be necessary to collect 110 signatures of municipal deputies of all 125 districts and 21 settlements of the capital. The municipal elections on September 11 of the United Democrats received the majority of the municipal elections in 14 municipal meetings .

Sobyanin was elected for a second term from 51.37 percent of votes in early elections on September 8, 2013. The mayor of Moscow went to the polls as a self -nominee with the support of United Russia. Its main opponent, Alexei Navalny, nominated from the RPR-Parnas party, received 27.24 percent of the vote.
