Amendments allowing blocking the websites of undesirable organizations without trial may be adopted by deputies as early as Thursday, October 26, RBC reports , citing Leonid Levin, head of the State Duma committee on information policy. On October 24, the Council of the Duma supported the bill, on October 25 it will be done by the Committee on Information Policy.
After the adoption of the law, Roskomnadzor will be able to independently make decisions on blocking on the Internet “information containing calls for mass riots, extremist activities, participation in mass events held in violation of the established procedure, materials published and (or) distributed by a foreign or international non-governmental organization, whose activities are deemed undesirable. To block, it will be enough to present the Prosecutor General or his deputies.
The currently undesirable list includes the websites of the Open Society Foundation and the Open Society Assistance Foundation, the American-Russian Foundation for Economic and Legal Development, two British branches of Open Russia, the National Democratic Institute of International Relations, Media Development Investment Fund, Corporation "International Republican Institute", Institute of Modern Russia and the Black Sea Fund for Regional Cooperation. But experts warn that the new restrictions could make it possible to block not only the sites of unwanted organizations, but also other content on the Internet.
