Chaika asked the US to open a case against Browder

Russian Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika asked his US colleague to open a criminal case against financier William Browder and revise the Magnitsky Act. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

According to the Attorney General, last summer the office sent more than a thousand sheets of documents to the United States so that the American authorities would either provide legal support to Russia or initiate proceedings against the Ziff brothers and Browder. Chaika expressed regret that the case has not yet been initiated.

Chaika also urged his colleague to revise the Magnitsky law. According to the Russian Prosecutor General, the law was adopted groundlessly in lobbying for people who committed crimes in Russia.

On Tuesday, October 24, Browder announced that his visa-free entry to the US had been reinstated and he successfully checked in for the flight. The US canceled Browder's visa after Russia put the businessman on an Interpol list to request an arrest.

Recall that William Browder, the founder of the Hermitage Capital fund and the former employer of the auditor Sergei Magnitsky, was sentenced in the summer of 2013 to nine years in a penal colony. The court found that Magnitsky, in the interests of Browder, developed and implemented an illegal tax evasion scheme.

In 2014, lawyer Sergei Magnitsky spoke about the theft of five billion rubles by Russian officials. He died in jail the following year. Later, the United States and Canada adopted the "Magnitsky Laws", which prohibits entry to persons involved in human rights violations in Russia and other countries.
